Case Study: Better Business Bureau Website

Web prototyping for BBB Nebraska, Southwest Iowa, South Dakota and The Kansas Plains

BBB helps people find and recommend businesses, brands, and charities they can trust. This project entailed prototypes and final artwork for the website home page design.

Project Overview

The BBB of Nebraska, SW Iowa, SD and The KS Plains is the largest bureau in the Nation. On many occasions, they have set the standard for corporate branding. Because their geographic region is so wide spread, their challenge was to design a relevant home page banner. Margo Riekes, director of marketing and public relations wanted to their look to be really striking to get people excited about the re-design to a mobile first framework.

The popular choice for other BBBs was a rotating carousel of three images. We decided visitors, in many cases, would not stay on the home page long enough to view all three images set to ease in/out at a nice pace. So, we opted for a collage that encompassed all the regions. We thought illustrative would be different than what others were doing.

The artwork condenses the region from east (Wichita's Keeper of The Plains sculpture) to west (SW Iowa's wind turbines) and uses different silhouetted shades to create depth from north (SD's Mount Rushmore) south (Union Pacific locomotive).
